IQS-URL and La Salle-URL launch a new Degree in Applied Mathematics focused on industry, science and artificial intelligence
Friday, March 6, 2026. IQS-URL and La Salle-URL will launch the new Degree in Applied Mathematics in September 2026, an official qualification designed to tackle the challenges of the future. The programme, jointly delivered by both institutions of the Universitat Ramon Llull (URL), moves away from the traditional pure mathematics model to offer technical training entirely focused on practical and professional application.
The core of this degree lies in the strategic combination of modelling, programming and large-scale data analysis. Its aim is to train professionals with a solid mathematical and computational foundation, capable of applying artificial intelligence, data science and programming to solving real-world problems in complex professional environments.
A hybrid model: scientific rigour and technological cutting-edge
The partnership between IQS and La Salle Campus Barcelona makes it possible to offer a unique educational pathway that combines IQS’s excellence in science and industry with La Salle Campus Barcelona’s strength in technology and computing. The curriculum, consisting of 240 ECTS credits spread across four years, guarantees strong training in statistics and computational methods, integrating Data Science and AI tools.
The programme also stands out for its international focus, with the third and fourth years taught in English, preparing students to work in multicultural and interdisciplinary environments anywhere in the world.
Specialisation and high employability
One of the key strengths of the Degree in Applied Mathematics is its applicability across cutting-edge areas of the job market. Students will be able to choose subjects in strategic sectors such as:
- Finance and banking: risk analysis and cryptography.
- Science and health: bioinformatics and biological applications.
- Industry 4.0: simulation, process optimisation and computer vision.
- Technology: artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
Thanks to mandatory external internships, students will have their first contact with the professional world at leading companies, adding value to their CV and steering their careers towards high-demand profiles such as data analyst, strategic consultant, data scientist, mathematical modelling specialist, AI-based solutions developer, or applied mathematician in industrial and technological environments.
State-of-the-art facilities
Students will have access to cutting-edge laboratories at both institutions, where they can develop logical thinking and the capacity for abstraction in a hands-on setting. This environment encourages collaborative teamwork — an essential skill for future professionals looking to enter the private sector, research, or public administration.
The Degree in Applied Mathematics not only offers a future-proof career, but also provides the tools to understand the relationship between mathematics and natural, economic and social phenomena, enabling graduates to transform reality through numbers.
