He succeeds Josep Antoni Rom, who did not complete his term due to his sudden passing

Tuesday, November 25, 2025. The Ramon Llull University (URL) Board of Trustees, chaired by Lluís Recoder, appointed Carles Pérez Testor, psychiatrist, psychotherapist and professor at Blanquerna-URL, as the new rector of the University effective January 7. Pérez Testor succeeds in the position Josep Antoni Rom, full professor at Blanquerna-URL who was rector from October 1, 2022 until his sudden passing on November 8, 2025.

Currently, Carles Pérez Testor is a professor at URL, founder of the Couple and Family Research Group of the Faculty of Psychology, Education and Sport Sciences Blanquerna-URL and co-chair of the Family Life working group of the SACRU university alliance. He also works as a psychiatrist and psychotherapist.

Interim Period

Josep Antoni Rom, co-founder of the Blanquerna-URL Faculty of Communication and International Relations and full professor at URL, was appointed rector of Ramon Llull University in October 2022 for a four-year term. His sudden death in November 2025 prevented him from completing the planned term.

To guarantee maximum normality in the functioning of the University, the Board of Trustees of the URL Foundation agreed that the current vice-rector with the longest tenure, Carlo Maria Gallucci, vice-rector for International and Student Relations, would assume the functions of rector of the URL during an interim period, from November 8, 2025 until the date of appointment of the new rector.

On the evening of Monday, November 24, Carles Pérez Testor, professor at FPCEE Blanquerna-URL, was appointed new rector of Ramon Llull University for a four-year term with effect from January 7, 2026, with the favorable report of the University's Governing Board.

The Board of Trustees has also approved that Carlo Maria Gallucci, rector of Ramon Llull University during the interim period that began on November 8, 2025, will continue to exercise the functions granted as interim rector until January 6, 2026. It has also approved maintaining the term of office of the members of the current Rector Team until the appointment of the new Rector Team by the Board of Trustees.

PROFILE OF CARLES PÉREZ TESTOR

Born in Barcelona (1957). Degree in Medicine and Surgery from the UAB; Doctor in Medicine and Surgery from the UAB; Specialist in Psychiatry and Diploma in Theology from the Institute of Theology, linked to the Faculty of Theology of Catalonia. Trained as an individual Psychotherapist and as a Couple and Family Psychotherapist at the Vidal i Barraquer Foundation (FVB). Teaching Supervisor for the Spanish Federation of Psychotherapy Associations (FEAP) and the Spanish Federation of Family Therapy Associations (FEATF).

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY

  • Doctor in free practice from 1981 to 1984 and from 2019 to the present.
  • Psychiatrist and psychotherapist at the Vidal i Barraquer Foundation from 1985 to 2019. He has been director of the Psychological Medical Center and director of the Vidal i Barraquer University Institute of Mental Health-URL. He has been a professor on the Postgraduate Course in Spiritual Accompaniment, on the Master's Degree in Transcultural Spirituality, on the Postgraduate Course in Clinical Psychopathology and on the Master's Degree in Family Therapy until the present. Supervisor of the Couple and Family Unit at the Vidal i Barraquer Foundation.
  • Professor of the Doctorate in Psychology program, the Degree in Psychology (Psychopathology and Psychology and Family) and the Master's degree in General Health Psychology of the Faculty of Psychology, Education and Sport Sciences Blanquerna-URL. Full professor, vice-dean of Research and Doctorate, Head of the Department of Psychology and currently Professor at URL.
  • Professor of Psychology in the Degree in Philosophy at the Ateneu Universitari Sant Pacià.
  • Scientific collaborator in a project on Mental Health in Catalonia of the Institut Borja de Bioética-URL.
  • Visiting professor in the project “Close relationships and community psychology: and International perspective” at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan.
  • President of the European Network of Family Institutes (REDIF) for 12 years and currently President of the Spanish Association for Research and Development of Family Therapy (AEI+DTF).
  • Member, among others, of the Spanish Society of Psychiatry, the International Association of Couple and Family Psychoanalysis and the Catalan Society of Family Therapy.

RESEARCH ACTIVITY

  • Researcher in the areas of family violence, couple conflicts and adoption.
  • Creation of the Family Studies and Research Group, later the Couple and Family Research Group (GRPF) in collaboration between the FPCEE Blanquerna-URL and the Vidal i Barraquer-URL University Institute of Mental Health (research group consolidated by the Generalitat de Catalunya to the present day).
  • He has participated in research projects funded by the Catalan Institute for Women, the State Research Agency, 5 European research projects, of which he has coordinated 1. He has directed 25 theses and is currently co-directing 5. Author or co-author of more than 100 articles and more than 10 books and book chapters.
  • He participated in the constitution of the Thematic Network on Domestic Violence (XTVF) and in the Thematic Network on Adolescence and Sexual Diversity.
  • He has participated in research activity in the European Network REDIF (Réseau Européen des Instituts de Famille), the YAGISS Network coordinated by the Ludwig Maximilians Universität Munich and intervention in disaster situations with the Università Alma Mater of Bologna.
  • Accredited as a Private University Professor (lecturer) in 2003, Research Accreditation in 2012 and Advanced Research Accreditation in 2015
