Ramon Llull University hosted the first NEWLEAD focus group
Wednesday, April 6, 2022. NEWLEAD project aims to build the capacity of university leaders in steering change and in addressing new priorities on the institutional transformation agenda. NEWLEAD is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Commission, as a Strategic Partnership for Higher Education. The project is led by the University Ramon Llull (URL) in Barcelona, in partnership with a diverse consortium including EUA.
Ramon Llull University hosted the first NEWLEAD focus group on Thursday 31 March and Friday 1 April at the La Salle-URL campus. Using a thematic and inclusive approach, the focus groups have been designed in response to these challenging times and has presented specific and pertinent issues that higher education leaders must address in the near future to ensure the success of their institutions.

These sessions addressed institutional leadership development through the following cross-cutting themes:
- Female leadership in HE
- International collaboration in HE
- Greening and sustainability in HE
The aim of the exercise was to reflect on what is needed for successful institutional transformation in relation to the above-mentioned themes. In order to do so, these issues were addressed under the following three headings:
- Governance
- Leadership
- Efficiency and finances
A special attention was pay on the HEI leaders role and the majors challenges they have to face with heading disruptive transformations in their institutions.
The focus group ended on Friday and after that the consortium of the project celebrates one of its regular meetings.
