Antoni Millet Abbad, appointed new president of the Board of Trustees of the Ramon Llull University Foundation

Tuesday, November 24th, 2020. The Board of Trustees of the Ramon Llull University Foundation has appointed Antoni Millet Abbad as the new president for the next four years.

Millet Abbad succeeds Josep Martínez-Rovira Vidal who has occupied the position since November 2016 fulfilling the mandate of four years. In his speech, Martinez-Rovira thanked the confidence and support given by URL governing bodies and has made a balance of the goals achieved during his term and the challenges that the University has ahead. The outgoing president highlighted that "the key indicators in the university field reflect the positive evolution of teaching, thanks to the efforts of all the federated institutions" as well as “the outstanding growth in research” and the improvement in the URL “positioning on the global map” and in "the most prestigious university rankings”. Martínez-Rovira also emphasized the need to continue dedicating efforts to "intensify university-company collaboration to contribute more effectively to innovation".

For his part, the new president of the Board of Trustees, Antoni Millet Abbad, has highlighted "the particular element of the federal nature of the URL", which means that this institution must "know how to find the necessary consensus based on the common interest of the University". Likewise, Millet Abbad has also highlighted "the strength of the URL thanks to the long and accredited academic curriculum of its institutions, even before the creation of the University". The new president also thanked Martínez Rovira "who has been working tirelessly for the URL".

Antoni Millet Abbad holds a degree in Law, has been a professor in the field of Roman Law at the University of Barcelona for over 30 years, and is currently working as a Partner Counsel at MES Advocats i Gestió firm. During his professional career, he has held various management positions, such as Deputy General Manager-Secretary General at "la Caixa" in Barcelona, General Manager at "la Caixa" and Director of the Fundació Centre d'Estudis Internacionals of the University of Barcelona, among others. He has also presided over the Fundació Privada Hospital de l'Esperit Sant, Abertis Logística and has been a member of the Economic Affairs Council of the Archbishopric of Barcelona. He has also been a member of the Board of Directors of several companies and chairperson of the Board of Trustees of several institutions. From 2002 to 2019, Millet presided over the Fundació Pere Tarrés and represented this institution on the Board of Trustees of the Ramon Llull University Foundation.
