Wednesday, 8 April 2015. The last Plenary session of Barcelona City Council approved the awarding of gold medals to acknowledge personalities from the world of sport, gastronomy, culture and science and their important role in the city.
The La Salle University and Technology Foundation is to receive the Gold Medal for Scientific Merit for its 50 years of valuable work in scientific and technical development and its practical knowledge in the areas of engineering, management, architecture and other disciplines.
This year La Salle-URL celebrates the 50th anniversary of the launch of the first Telecommunications School of Catalonia, created in 1965.
The other medals awarded went to the Pitarra restaurant for Civic Merit in recognition of the quality of its cooking, which is the result of a 125-year history and its cultural commitment to Barcelona and Catalonia; in the area of sports, the award went jointly to Joan Durà Riera and Enric Truñó Lagares for their career of involvement and effort in promoting sport and the city of Barcelona; and the Gold Medal for Cultural Merit went to Jordi Savall Bernadet for his contribution to publicising early music and putting Barcelona and Catalonia on the worldwide music scene.
