IQS-URL students present their Service-Learning Projects at the headquarters of the Cruz Roja Catalunya

11.03.2026

Wednesday, March 11, 2026. Last Tuesday, February 24th, a delegation from IQS-URL traveled to the central headquarters of Red Cross Catalonia, in Barcelona, to attend the presentation of projects developed by a group of students during the first semester of the 2025–2026 academic year. The group was welcomed by the president of Red Cross Catalonia, Josep Quitet i Torner, who greeted them and expressed his gratitude for their involvement.

A Service-Learning Project Integrated into Two Courses

The activity is part of a Service-Learning (SL) experience linked to two undergraduate courses: Sustainable Marketing, taught by Dr. Irene Garnelo with 4th-year students; and Sales Management, taught by Dr. Rubén Cuenca with 3rd-year students.

During the opening sessions of the semester, Red Cross professionals visited IQS-URL to present real challenges faced by the organization, related to operational needs, awareness-raising strategies, and process improvement. Based on these challenges, students formed working teams to analyze the issues and propose viable solutions aimed at addressing the identified needs.

Final Presentation and Recognition of the Best Projects

At the end of the semester, the teams presented their projects to faculty members and Red Cross representatives. From all the proposals submitted, the two best teams from each course were selected to take part in a second presentation event.

These groups were invited to visit the Barcelona logistics center, where they had the opportunity to present their work directly to the organization’s president and to members of the steering group and other Red Cross departments.

The event also included a tour of the headquarters and operations center, giving students a firsthand look at the organization’s internal workings, as well as a diploma ceremony for the students and the faculty responsible for the courses.

Looking Ahead to Future Collaborations

IQS-URL views this experience very positively, as it strengthens ties with a leading organization in the social sector. The proposals presented have generated interest, and Red Cross has expressed its intention to follow up on those initiatives that best align with its needs.

In addition, other IQS-URL faculty members are being invited to take part in future Service-Learning challenges, promoting a well-rounded educational approach that connects academic learning with real social impact.
