On 1 March 2001
it was made public that the Ramon Llull University had been
awarded the UNESCO Chair in Education, Development, Technology
and Systems of Finance in Latin America.
On 29 August 2001, the then rector of the Ramon Llull University,
Dr. Miquel Gassiot, and the director general of UNESCO, Koïchiro
Matsuura, signed the agreement creating the UNESCO Chair for
Education, Technology and Systems of Finance in Latin America
Finally, on 10 January 2002, the UNESCO Chair was presented
publicly in an event that took place at the headquarters of
the Trust and Rectory of the URL (C. Claravall, 1-3) and was
presided over by the then president of the Catalan Regional
Government, the Honourable Mr. Jordi Pujol.
